Following a tough upbringing, Fred Short has participated in many aspects of the American Indian Movement for over forty years. He has contributed as a spiritual leader and as an organizer and participant in supporting Native American long-distance runs, Indian sovereignty and sobriety, and efforts to commemorate sacred lands and artifacts. Join us online on Saturday, April 30th from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM to hear him tell stories from his life and his moving memoir. Fred will be introduced and interviewed by Kim Bancroft, a California writer based in Willits, who also edited his memoir. Malcolm Margolin, Founder of the California Institute for Community, Art & Nature, will also offer some introductory remarks. Fred’s talk and interview with Kim will take 45-60 minutes with the remaining time of 30-45 minutes available for dialogue and questions from the audience.

Please note that Fred and his partner Connie have about 50 books available for sale at $20 each.  If you are interested in purchasing Fred’s memoir, you can order your copy in one of 2 ways:

1) Email Fred and Connie at aimsober@yahoo.com and Connie will get back to you with their address to send a check; or

2) Folks who are Friends with Fred on Facebook can get contact him via Facebook Messenger and request a copy of the book.

Note: Due to Covid-19, we had to postpone our originally-planned in-person book release celebration for Fred’s new memoir that was to take place at his preferred location: Intertribal Friendship House in Oakland. Given Covid realities, in consultation with Fred and his partner Connie, we have decided to move forward with an online event—keeping everyone safe and hopefully allowing for even more people to participate. If you can’t log on on Saturday April 30th at 11:00 AM, please know that we are planning to record the event and make the recording available online after the event is over. We are especially honored to share the sponsorship of this online event with the Intertribal Friendship House Community and offer our appreciation to Carol Wahpepah for helping to get the word out for this virtual event.
