EXTRACTION: Art on the Edge of the Abyss
The arts have played a vital role in environmental advocacy since the movement’s beginnings. As our world changes, the role and responsibility of the artist evolves. We bear witness to the saddening effects extractive industries have on our lands, our waters, our communities, and our souls. Today, the arts are needed more than ever, and we are thrilled to work with Peter Koch on this project.
Extraction: Art on the Edge of the Abyss provides an open door for people to share work created in response to the practices of these industries, a conceptual place for artists of many media to reconfigure our imaginations. Throughout 2021, simultaneous exhibits of variety of media including photography, video, painting, sculpture, land art, performances, installations, site-specific work, and various hybrids, all forms of extraction, and its consequences will be investigated.
Extraction is the brainchild of Peter Koch and Edwin Dobb, people of vast experience, world class talents, and wide contacts. If you’d like to learn more, visit their site at extractionart.org.
